The President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, attended the tenth official ceremony awarding the best universities in Bulgaria for 2025 which were first in the ranking of higher education institutions by professional fields. The ceremony took place on January 27 at the NV Tower in Sofia, organized by the “24 Hours” media platform.
Corr. Memb. Slavcheva presented to the Technical University of Sofia the award for first place in six professional fields (Electrical Engineering, Electronics, and Automation; Energy; Communication and Computer Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; General Engineering, and Transport, Shipping, and Aviation) and with the highest accreditation rating for engineering majors in the country. The award was accepted by the university’s rector, Prof. Dr. Georgi Venkov.
This year’s edition of the ranking system compares the performance of 51 accredited higher education institutions in Bulgaria across 52 professional fields. It uses 52 indicators – from the quality of teaching and research to the employment of graduates and their income after graduation, as well as student feedback. For the first time, an indicator measuring students’ assessment of attendance at lectures and seminars has been included.
Official guests at the anniversary edition were the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Iliana Iotova, the Head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria Yordanka Chobanova, the outgoing Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev, the Chairperson of the Council of Rectors Prof. Miglena Temelkova, university rectors, ministers of education and science from Bulgarian governments since 1990, representatives of the academic community, business and industry, as well as distinguished students.
